I made it! Nisse got clothes before Christmas. He patiently waited for it for the whole year, no complaints, what a good man!
It took me a while to decide what kind of clothes he should wear. I thought about making him a farmer’s plaid shirt and pants out of denim, or knit him a chunky scarf and make rag clothes, or tartan shirt and woolen pants and so many other ideas. But then I thought he comes from Scandinavian folklore and would be more comfortable wearing a Norwegian sweater. So one morning I started looking for a simple and quick pattern. But as it usually happens, I got carried away looking through many knitting books, computer files and tear out folders. Then I thought I like this one and started to knit to only realize I did not like this pattern. After 3 more times of starting with different patterns I finally liked my choice #4. To make my life easier I knitted the snowflake pattern only on its front and the back and the sleeves are a ‘no brainer’ kind of pattern.

Here is Nisse the night I finished knitting his sweater. He really liked it and put it on right away. But still no pants.

Next day was my sewing day. Again the idea was “quick and easy” pants. But the story repeats. I went through my fabric samples because I wanted to add some pretty details. The sewing went almost till midnight.
I backed the suspenders with tartan fabric as well as the folds of the pants. The samples were really small pieces, so I had to cut narrow strips and sew them together to have the right length. The fabric of the pants is velvet.

I made the pants a bit short so the red and white stripes of his body fabric could be seen.

Well, it was not easy to make him stand, he’s a bit wobbly.

He’s ready for Christmas and all he might wish for at the moment is a GIRLFRIEND. I promised him he’ll have one by next Christmas and he didn’t mind the wait.

Наконец-то я добралась до блога. Просто заставила себя написать обещанный русский текс, а то моя “маньяна” (завтра) что-то зависла.
Последнее время и особенно перед праздниками времени совсем не хватает ни на что, нет времени ответить на емэйлы, нет времени выспаться, нет времени посмотреть на себя в зеркало! Я чувствую себя как белка в колесе. Не жалуюсь, мне даже нравится. Единственное, когда я замедляю свой темп – когда работаю над очередным проектом. Я хочу сделать все как можно лучше, а спешка и качество из разных категорий.
Возвращаясь к Ниссе. Ниссе – это герой скандинавского фольклора. Если верить преданию он живет в каждом доме и если ему нравится как к нему относятся, то он невидимо помогает заботиться о хозяйсте и домашних животных. Он всегда присутствует в доме на Рождество. Своего Ниссе я сшила в прошлом году. После долгих раздумий какую одежду сшить для Ниссе, он наконец-то одет. У меня было много идей: клетчатая рубушка и джинсы, толстый вязанный шарф и одежда из мешковины и пр., но учитывая, что он родом из северной Европы, норвежский свитер был самый есстественный выбор. Мой Ниссе довольно большого размера, 90 см от макушки шапки, поэтому пришлось потратить несколько дней на вязание. Сначала я думала, свяжу простой черно-белый свитер, одна петля белая другая черная, чтобы долго не возиться и простые штаны по-быстрому. Но после трех попыток, начинала и распускала свитер, потому что не нравился результат. Четвертая попытка была удачная.
Со штанами получилось тоже самое, вместо простеньких и по-быстрому – детали, требующие времени. Детали: отвороты в клетку, подтяжки также подшиты тканью в клетку. Сами брюки я сшила из велюра.
Мой Ниссе наконец-то одет и теперь ему нужна подружка!
