A present

My Ukrainian girl friend gave me this old melhior tea glass holder. A morning spent polishing and admiring every single detail, beautiful tiny strawberries and pears skilfully carved around the medallion. What could be better for a person addicted to old and beautiful?

Before it’s packed and ready to go to its new home in far away Hong Kong, I’m going to engrave my monogram on it, just have to decide should it be in English or Kirillitsa alphabet.

{according to the tea glass holder markings it was made in Kiev, Ukraine in early 50′s}

Strolling in Kiev

Beautiful Kiev. Very kind, polite, nice people. A lot of old buildings have been restored or under restoration at the moment. I took a ton of photos yesterday while walking miles and miles in downtown Kiev. It is not easy to choose just a few to share with you in one post. So, here are some and I hope you enjoy beautiful architecture of the capital of my home country.

Cinese girl update

After I changed the setting of my camera to ‘foliage’, it seems to be working better. As a result, the embroidery colors on the second photo (and those bellow) are very close to the real ones.

3/4 of the embroidery is done and this is where I’m at at the moment. Since I’m going on a 2+ month trip leaving tomorrow for Ukraine and then France and Italy , it will have to wait to be finished when I’m back in June. I also have decided on a frame. It will be a chinoiserie frame from Altfield. The frame is beautiful and in a pagoda shape. I don’t have a picture of it right now, because they don’t have this frame on display, it was shown to me in their catalog. They will make it to order when I know the exact size of my finished embroidery.

I’d better start packing now and I’ll post pictures from my travels, so stop by if you would like to see them.

Arrivederci my friends and Bon voyage to me!
