THANK YOU, COREY!

These were among other goodies in a huge box that arrived today from Provence, France.

Packed with love. It has brought so many wonderful emotions … and some tears too.

Spice jars filed with lavender and herbs of Provence with pretty antique stoppers, they are in my kitchen now.
Thank you, my dear friend!!

Love it! Check it out.

Remember this copper pot rack?

It was my inspirational picture of a pot rack I dreamed of having in my new kitchen.

Then there was the making of a paper model of a pot rack to make sure the size is right to keep it proportionally correct, and a drawing with measurements, and an extensive search for a metal shop that deals with color metals.
Well, there are some, but the case was not just to find a shop, but to find a price that would be reasonable. So, we were looking for a metalwork artiste instead of a retailer. We were very lucky to find this man who agreed to make it and for a very reasonable price.

I could not wait to share my excitement. Please excuse these in-a-hurry pictures with boxes at the background since we and everything else are waiting to move into the new apartment and there are boxes scattered all over our current apartment.

So, here it is, my own SOLID BRASS ceiling pot rack with 16 double-sided hooks and 2 ceiling solid brass hooks.

All I can say is I love it so much. It has a wonderful quality, you can see that the person who was making it cared for his work. It definitely will be an object of admiration in my kitchen.

PS. The other good news is:
I’ve seen a sample of our kitchen cabinets door and it is done right now so we go with this cabinet maker and hopefully will move in before Christmas (remember, the original due date was August 22?). Still, it’s better late than never.

A pot rack

Inspirational picture for a ceiling pot rack that will have to be ordered custom made in the appropriate size.
My husband and I both prefer it to be made out of copper, will see if it can be realized. Sometime this week we’re going to look for a metal shop that could turn this photo into reality.

надеюсь, то что на фото – будет реальностью в моей новой кухне. главное условие: материал – медь. посмотрим, удастся ли найти мастерскую и металло дел мастера, который воплотит этот план в действительность.

Kitchen progress

Today I had received our kitchen cabinet drawings from the designer, reviewed the measurements and all. It looked good.
The picture bellow shows half of the future kitchen.

But then I got another email from him suggesting cabinet doors style even though we have talked about it, I gave him a picture of the fronts both doors and drawers. Seeing that picture he sent got me a bit worried. I won’t post it here since to me it’s… how should I say … a doll house? too pretty. This is definitely not how I would like our kitchen to look, please, NO.

Here is my absolute favorite kitchen and I just love those fronts of the cabinets and drawers! They are of the same style but not exactly the same in construction.

These ARE the beautiful doors. Please ignore that drawer pull, I know it’s ugly. I photoshoped it in from another photo, just to show the pulls style to our contractors.

The drawer front does not have convex in the middle, the rest of the style is the same. I really liked that and am copping for my kitchen.
Tomorrow I’ll have to talk about the cabinet doors with our designer again. I have a feeling they might have to be custom made which we all know will make the price to go up. So, depending on how much I might have to think of another door style :-(
but for now:

Easter sweet bread – Ukrainian paska

Today is the day for getting ready for Easter. Since I decided to bake traditional Easter bread this year that is what I was doing today. Almost 12 hours later it’s ready and it looks not bad. Still have to be decorated though. While I’m waiting for my paski to cool down, I’m typing this entry and am ready to show you some pictures.

I kept an eye on the dough the whole morning and afternoon. It was rising nicely.

Tin cans will be lined with parchment paper and half filled with the dough.

… and finally here they are

I cut one to see the texture of my bread.

It’s time for decorating them with glaze and colored topping.

Stay tuned to see the end result.
